KOTA: India's coaching capital Kota maintained its success rate in the 2017 Joint Entrance Exam (JEE) results, with 45 out of the 100 top students having studied in different tuition centres in the city. Five have secured top positions with an all-India rank of 5, 6, 8, 9 and 10 !!
Of the total, 40 students have decided to opt for computer science branch in IIT Bombay, which has a total of 110 seats, including 50 in general category.
Suraj, the son of a contractual teacher and homemaker mother from Haryana's Bhawani district scored 330 out of 366 marks to secure the fifth rank. "Suraj is our best score. We have four ranks in the top 100," said director of his academy, Narendra Awasthi.
AIR sixth rank holder Saurav Yadav, also a resident of Bhawani, said he never thought of being among the top ten. Saurav said he was weak in maths, but his teachers helped him improve his foundation. Accompanied by his mother, Sourav stayed in Kota for two years and studied. "Along with Saurav, we have nine ranks in the top 100 and the first rank in SC and ST category," said R K Verma, managing director of his coaching centre.
The other toppers include Onkar Manik Deshpande (AIR 8), Rachit Bansal (AIR 9) and Lakshya Sharma (AIR 10). The centre's founder director said the institute had three students in the top 10, 10 in the top 25, and 25 in the top 100. The oldest institute in Kota reportedly had a 50% selection rate.
