CBSE Board Exams 2020 Cancelled or Not?

Published 3 years ago

Central Board of Secondary Education, CBSE is expected to share its reply with the Supreme Court by tomorrow - June 23, regarding its decision to cancel or conduct the pending board examinations. With the exams scheduled to begin from next week, anxious parents have reached out to the board for response. Many students have also reached out to the board, urging them to cancel the pending exams or find the 'best solution'. Officials have however not shared any hints as to the decision of the board.
Keeping the response to the queries non-committal, the officials write - 'Direction issued by Government of India for conduct of examination shall be followed.' The response is standard for almost all such queries and has been so since last week. It further adds that the guidelines for precationary measures as per GOI would be followed.

With rising coronavirus cases, parents had petitioned the Supreme Court for cancellation of the pending examination. Pursuant to the same, the apex court on June 17 asked the board to reconsider its decision to conduct the examination. Manish Sisodia, Deputy CM of Delhi also wrote to the HRD Minister, urging that the pending exams be cancelled and cited reasons why it was not possible to conduct the exams in Delhi.
In reply, the HRD Minister conducted a review meeting with the heads of CBSE as well as NTA, UGC and AICTE. Specifics of the meeting were not released. The HRD Minister had, however, stated that safety of the students was of paramount concern.

The wait for the decision on CBSE Board Exams has been an excruciating one. Soon after the board exams were deferred on March 18, the speculation regarding cancellation of the pending exams started to do rounds. Officials however had confirmed that the exams would be conducted. On April 1, the board announced its decision to cancel all remaining exams except 29 subjects.
HRD Minister, Ramesh Pokhriyal Nishank later announced the CBSE exam dates for the pending 29 subjects. It was decided by the board to conduct the examinations from July 1 to July 15. The board had also issued strict guidelines regarding the conduct of the examination, keeping social distancing in mind.
