NTA has introduced a few changes in the exam pattern of the upcoming Joint Entrance Exam for engineering, pharma, and architecture.
The NTA will conduct the JEE Main 2020 exam twice in a year - January and April. The first round of the JEE Main 2020 exam will be conducted from January 6-11, 2020. It comprises Paper-I (for admissions to BE/BTech courses) and Paper-II (for admissions to BArch/BPlanning). The second round of the JEE Main 2020 is scheduled to be held from April 3-9, 2020 for Paper-I and Paper-II.
Following are the changes introduced by the NTA:
• The NTA has reduced the total number of question from 264 to 233
• The NTA JEE Main 2020 paper will now include numerical questions also
• The JEE Main Paper-I (for BE/BTech) and Paper-II (for BArch/BPlanning) will be conducted solely in CBT mode, except that the drawing test for BArch will take place in 'pen & paper' (offline) mode.
• The JEE Main 2020 Paper-I (BE/BTech) will comprise multiple-choice questions and numerical questions whereas JEE Main Paper-II is now separate for BArch and BPlanning aspirants.

Changes made in JEE Main 2020 Paper I (BE/BTech)The JEE Main 2020 Paper I will have three sections - Mathematics, Physics and Chemistry with 25 questions in each subject, comprising 20 multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and five numerical problems. There will be no negative marking for the numerical value questions, while -1 will be deducted for each wrong answer in the MCQs. The students will get 3 hours to complete the JEE Main Paper I. The total marks will be 300.
2. Changes made in JEE Main 2020 Paper-II (BArch/BPlanning)JEE Main 2020 Paper-II - BArchThe JEE Main 2020 Paper-II (BArch) is divided into three parts – Mathematics, Aptitude and Drawing. Maths section will include 20 MCQs and 5 questions with a numerical value; Aptitude section will have 50 MCQs; the Drawing section will consist of 2 drawing-related questions of 50 marks each. The questions paper will have a total of 77 questions and the total marks of the paper will be 400. Candidates will get 3 hours to complete the paper. There will be no negative marking for numerical value question, while, for MCQs, -1 will be deducted for an incorrect answer and 0 for an attempted question.
JEE Main 2020 Paper-II - BPlanning
The JEE Main 2020 Paper-II (BPlanning) will also have three parts – Mathematics, Aptitude and Planning based Objective type MCQ’s. Maths section will have 20 MCQs and 5 questions with a numerical value. Aptitude section will comprise of 50 aptitude-based MCQs, while in the third section, there will be 25 planning-based objective type MCQs. The total marks for this paper will be 400. The duration of the paper will be 3 hours with a total of 100 questions. There will be no negative marking for numerical value questions. For MCQs, -1 will be deducted for an incorrect answer.
