NEET 2018 Biology - Exam Tips & Most Important Sample Questions Pattern

Published 6 years ago

Becoming a successful doctor is a dream of every medical student. Lakhs of aspirants appear for the National Eligibility cum Entrance Test (NEET) every year to make their dream come true.

However, in order to make it to the top colleges, it is imperative to not only crack the exam but also get a high rank. And it is possible only when you work hard as well as making the most of the available time smartly.
With just a few months left for the NEET, you might be preparing for the exam with a great zeal aiming to crack it at one go. But burning the midnight oil to get the desired rank in one of the toughest medical entrance exams in the country is not enough.

You need to follow a proper NEET 2018 study plan and expert preparation strategy to cruise through. Considering the variables, you must plan strategically and as NEET is based mainly on the NCERT textbooks, therefore a thorough revision of its syllabus is a must.

Have a plan and follow it:
There are three types of question patterns in every exam. Try to prepare for topics as per the weightage in NEET.
· Must attempt
· Give your best shot
· Do only if you have enough time

Must attempt – The important topics under this group are Cell Structure, Photosynthesis, Biotechnology, Genetics, Plant Morphology, Evolution, Cellular Respiration etc.

Give your best shot – The topics comprise of Digestion & Absorption, Animal Reproduction & Development, Breathing & Exchange of gases, Ecology, Biological classification etc.

Do only if you have enough time – This section mainly comprises of Animal Kingdom, Animal Tissues, Anatomy of Flowering Plants and Plant growth & development etc.

Topics like Plantae and Animalia must be prepared carefully since it is extensive and time-consuming. However, more importance on the characters of Phylum in Non-Chordates and up to the class level in Chordates. Students are recommended to study all the examples given in NCERT along with the common names.

Key topics
Prepare ‘Human Physiology’, ‘Plant Physiology’, ‘Cell Biology’, and ‘Biomolecules’ from Class XI syllabus as per the previous year questions papers in NEET or AIPMT examinations.
Also, remember the common and scientific names of the organisms from kingdom Animalia & Plantae.
Practice as many numerical problems from ‘Genetics’ as you can, along with the pedigree chart, You must also set up a strong knowledge base conceptually about ‘Biotechnology’ and ‘Ecology’.

Practice to become better
Practice is the most vital activity. Don’t leave the practice part after you have completed the syllabus. Try to continue your assessment with various types of Mock tests, practice papers and sample papers that are available online for NEET.
Try to analyse the mock test when you are done as without an analysis you will not be able to find out your weak areas for NEET exam. Last but not the least, do remember that NEET paper is biology-centric but that doesn’t mean that you can overlook Physics and Chemistry. Both subjects are high scoring and have to be prepared well.
