Students who had been eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, the IIT entrance exam, in the pandemic years of 2020 and/or 2021 and could not appear for them would now be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced 2022 without the need to appear for JEE Main 2022. The news for the JEE extra attempt was announced by the Joint Admissions Board (JAB).
Though these students won’t need to crack JEE Main all over again, they will need to successfully register for the JEE Advanced 2022 in the online registration portal and pay the registration fee.
More clarity on extra JEE Advanced attempts
In the batch of 2020 candidates, those who could appear for the exam only once in 2020 or 2021, or couldn’t appear in either of the years would be eligible now for JEE Advanced 2022. Those who appeared for the exam both in 2020 and 2021 will not be eligible for this third JEE attempt.
What JAB said in its official notice
“Candidates who appeared in Class 12 (or equivalent) examination for the first time in 2020 OR 2021 AND successfully registered for JEE (Advanced) 2021 but were absent in BOTH the papers, i.e., Paper 1 and Paper 2, of JEE (Advanced) 2021, are eligible to directly appear for JEE (Advanced) 2022,” an official statement said.
“This one-time measure is applicable to ONLY those candidates for whom the appearance in JEE (Advanced) 2022 will be their first or second attempt and is not applicable to candidates who appeared for their Class 12 exam for the first time before 2020,” the official notice by JAB stated.
“No candidate will be allowed to appear in JEE (Advanced) more than two times," the notice added.
Change in syllabus
The JEE syllabus is being changed from the batch of 2023 and the new syllabus will include chapters that were not a part of JEE Advanced but were in JEE Mains.
As per experts, the new syllabus would make the IIT entrance exam a lot more in sync with the NCERT and the JEE Main syllabus.
Candidates appearing for JEE Advanced 2022 will need to study the earlier syllabus itself.
